In a season of disappointments, London Colney suffered probably the worst yet as they failed to win a match away at Waltham Cross Rosedale which, halfway through the first innings had looked theirs for the taking. After winning the toss, stand in skipper Scott Hadley, mindful of the increasingly desperate need for points, asked the home side to bat, and saw Tim Fretter and Uzman Zaman get among the wickets early on. By the 30th over Waltham Cross Rosedale were reduced to 91-8, with Fretter and Zaman taking 4 apiece . Opener Modi had hit an aggressive 59, but when he was the 8th wicket to fall the game looked set for an early finish. Kaly, batting at 9, and supported by Lewis (18), started a repair job with a stubborn 9th wicket partnership of 55, and when Colney were forced to turn to their change bowlers, Kaly was able to cut loose, scoring the majority of the runs in an unbroken last wicket partnership of 76, to finish on an unbeaten 84. Even the returning Zaman and Fretter were unable to break the last pair as Waltham Cross Rosedale somehow got from 91-8 to 222-9 at the close.

If that wasn’t bad enough, Colney then produced one of the poorest batting displays of the season, to fail to get even close to their target. After Phil McLaughlin (22) and Nick Wale (15) added 43 for the 2nd wicket, the middle order collapsed, with 4 wickets falling for 10 runs. Ady Fisher stuck around to score 28 with the tail, and in the end Colney were able to deny the home side the win as last man Tom Blackman, not for the first time this season, showed a lot more fight than those above him in the order as Colney finished on 116-9. Halfway through the season, Colney are in urgent need of some cause for optimism, and will feel that if they can’t win from this position, it is difficult to see how they can win at all.
