Saracens Herts League Division 3, Saturday July 28th
London Colney vs Hoddesdon II at London Colney
Hoddesdon II 91 all out, 34.5 overs
London Colney 92-4, 27 overs
London Colney won by 6 wickets
After breaking their season’s duck last week, Colney will be feeling some real cause for optimism as they gained a second successive win, at home to fellow strugglers Hoddesdon II. Although the visitors won the toss and elected to bat, that was pretty much the last thing that went right for them. After losing two wickets cheaply, Handy (21) and Mohamed (31) held Colney up with a 50 partnership before Uzman Zaman (3-31) and Matt Bristow (2-18) blew away the middle order. When David Goff was introduced at six down, , he polished off the tail in just seven overs, taking 4-17 aided by two more stumpings from Ady Fisher, to leave Hoddesdon II all out for a well-below par 91.
Colney’s reply wasn’t without its share of wobbles however, and when four wickets had fallen for 45, it even looked as if they might mess it up. Nick Wale, however, opening the innings in just his second game of the season, looked in control from the off, and with Ady Fisher 12*) added an unbroken 47 to finish on a match winning 62 not out, and see Colney home with 38 overs of the match still remaining. This second win in succession sees Colney still in the drop zone, but moving in the right direction, and with games still tom come against fellow struggling sides, in with a real chance of rescuing their season.
