London Colney Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI v Reed II on Sat 07 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Lost 162 all out, chasing 210
It was a bad day for the II’s as well, at home to Reed II, as they too let slip a promising looking position after asking the opposition to bat. Reed’s top order initially found life against the Colney opening attack difficult and with Richard Rouse and Ady Bristow taking early wickets, had only crawled to 58-3 by the 30th over. Fulk (78) and Bowles (36) started to turn things round for the visitors with a 87 run 4th wicket partnership, with the run rate increasing dramatically as Colney turned to their change bowlers. When Colney skipper Paul Seymour re-introduced Richard Rouse into the attack he was able to remove both, but quick late runs from Allsop (24) and Ward (30) lifted Reed to a closing score of 209-7, well in excess of what had looked likely at the halfway mark. Rouse was by far the pick of Colney’s bowlers, claiming 5-60, and Ady Bristow wheeled away in the holding mode, taking 2-46 from 20 overs.
Colney’s reply was based round Alex McCartney, and while he was at the crease, a successful run chase looked possible. No-one was able to stay with him, however, and build a match winning partnership, and wickets fell at more or less regular intervals throughout the innings. The crucial moment came when, with 5 down, Reed introduced the ultra-slow off spin of Bowles, and McCartney played virtually his first false shot, holing out in the covers for a excellent 79. After that it was a procession, apart from some late blows from Richard Rouse (35) which took Colney to a couple of bonus points. Reed skipper Archer was the pick of the bowlers, taking 4-34 in the closing stages as Colney were all out for 162, 48 runs short of their target.
