Northwood Town II v London Colney Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 14 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
Match was Drawn Colney reached 205-5, chasing 238

A fixture clash saw London Colney II play their home match against Northwood II at Camdenians, where the two sides fought out a competitive and entertaining draw, played in excellent spirit. After the “visitors” won the toss and decided to bat, Colney soon had them in trouble at 45-4 as Connor Dow, Ady Bristow and Trevor Ray picked up early wickets. Crucially however, Doling, playing in the II after a spell in the I’s, was still there, and with Armitage (42) added 118 for the 5th wicket. By the time John Gibbons broke that stand, Northwood were past 160 and well on their way to a competitive total. Colney’s bowlers were able to wrap the tail up without too much trouble, but by this time Doling was pretty much unstoppable, and was able to get enough of the strike in the final overs to lift Northwood to 237 by the time last wicket fell, to leave him on a superb 131 not out. For Colney, Ady Bristow was the most successful bowler with 3-46, and there were 2 wickets each for Trevor Ray, Den Hadley and John Gibbons.

Camdenians is a fast scoring track, and there was still every chance that Colney could chase this down, especially with Alex McCartney in his current form. He got another 50, backed up by 28 from Trevor Ray, but by the time the score reached 121-4, both were out, and the job was left to Colney’s middle order. Colney probably had the batsmen to do it, but critically, Doling had sent down 17 overs for just 36 runs, leaving Colney needing almost 7 an over from the rest, which they were never quite able to do. Camdenians skipper kept the game open, and Paul Seymour was able to plunder some late runs with a big hitting 42. Jerry Fretter hit an unbeaten 39, and some late blows from Ricky Zeiderman took Colney to maximum batting points, but in the end they finished well short on 205-5, in a game played in good spirits, where potential flash points in both innings were just shrugged off with a smile by both teams.
