St Albans I v London Colney Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 29 Apr 2007 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
London Colney (Sun 1st XI) opened the season with a win, despite having 10 players. Tim Fretter lost the toss and was asked to field. Simon 'Slug' Fretter and Ade Bristow opened the bowling and were rewarded in the 2nd over, when Fretter S had the St Albans cricket playing on to a short ball. This was followed two balls later when Ade Bristow bowled the ball of the match to remove youngster Rosson.
St Albans found it hard to get the ball away and were thankful to St Albsn 1st XI capt, Martin Jones who scored 42, before being caught by Tim Fretter off Merv Irvine. A later burst by Nick James saw St Albans were all out for 141, as Tim Fretter required only one ball to end the innings.
New South African overseas player, Adam Buckmaster and Mitch Bradley opened the innings and were progressing nicely at 4 runs an over. However, in the 13th over with the score on 54, a ball ran almost to the boundary. Both players thought the ball had gone, only for a throw finding Mitch well out.
Adam was joined by Slug and they marched towards the target without any problem. With three overs bowled for 33 runs, it looked like a 9 wicket win. However, Adam had one swipe too many, and was caught at the wicket. Slug ran down the track and was stumped.
Tim Fretter, along with Mick Newlands (snr) saw London Colney home with 23 overs to spare.
