London Colney Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI v Flamstead on Sun 06 May 2007 at 2.00
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 75 runs
Captain Scott Hadley won the toss and elected to bat on a used track. With only 10 men (later to be 8 !!!), Tim Fretter and Scott opened and set off at over 6-an-over, before Tim mis-timed to mid-off for 5. Matt Bristow took 14 balls to get off the mark, but this didn't stop Scott smashing the ball to all parts. After a 156 2nd wicket partnership, Scott finally fell, looping an easy catch. Matt Bristow continued on, now raising the pace. He scored 59 before he then also looped one. With the score well over 200, and overs in hand, the following batsmen had a bit of a licence to hit. Late runs from Goff 22 and Hadley P (29) saw the score to 279-6 from 40 overs.
After tea, Flamstead came out firing, as if they were going for it, albeit at one at 6 an over. Goff had no luck, as nicks and swipes somehow found gaps.
Irvine found good lines, only to see the balls 'biffed' to the boundary. Slug Fretter came in at the pavillion end, and brought about some control. He too was to suffer no luck either. Eventually, Goff made the breakthough, as a 'swipe' too many saw the opener bowled. Goff then took two more wickets in a 13 over, unbroken spell. Slug took a low catch at first slip and Hadley S an head- high catch at gully. Flamstead needed over 10-an-over, but didn't really look like being close.
Slug got some reward with two 'plumb' LBW's in a fine spell.
Paul Hadley replaced Goff and came away with figures that didn't really do his spell justice.
London Colney were reduced to 10men when Goff, dropped a catch and wandered from the field. he was seen moments later, showered and changed, with a small cut on his finger.....
The game was dead, with the run rate rising to 15,20,30 runs an over.
The book shows that Colney won by 70 odd runs, but the game was won with a fine 1st innings score
