Scorecard

Southgate Compton v London Colney Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 08 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Colney made the short trip to Southgate Compton for a Chess Valley League game. This brought back bad memories for Capt 'Cock' Hadley, as it was the first time he had travelled on M25 at J24 !!!

Capt Scott won the toss and asked Compton to bat.
Tim Fretter opened the bowling with four wide balls in a row, which was a sign of his bowling in this match. It was not helped when Goffy dropped a dolly (jug!!) at square leg/.

Uzman at the other end was keeping it tight with some good line and length.

It was the change bowling of DJE 'Bernard' Goff that saw the breakthrough, when he had the opener caught by Adam in mid-on. This was the first of one of his three catches (jug). Goff continued to take wickets at regular intervals.

Richard Rouse replaced Uzman at the end of his spell and also took a wicket with a ball that came back through the gate.

Compton were struggling to get going, but with short boundaries a score well over 200 was par.

Goff finished with 5 wickets (jug) and went off to sleep in the back of Rouse's car. !! (jug)

Simon 'Slug' Fretter came on and after one over of spin, reverted to a more potent pace. He finsihed off the innings when he produced a 'yorker' to end the innings.

Compton were all out for just 148, which could have been worse had it not been for the generous umpiring in some wides, LBW's and a caught behind.

Anyway, 148 was well below par. After tea, Adam and Wisey (who had just won at the 'K' club) set off in pursuit.

With the score ticking over at an easy rate, Wisey managed to edge to slip and was well caught (it did carry). The very next ball, Adam was then caught behind, believing that he had hit it into the ground.

Capt Scott joined Alex McCartney at the wicket. Scott was caught off a no ball and he was to make Compton pay.

Both batsmen hit the ball to all parts of the ground, both in the air and on the ground. Alex was happy to watch as Capt Scott managed to get past 20 (hurrah) and well past 50. Neither batsmen giving a chance.

Compton's head dropped and in the end were well beaten.

There were jugs awarded in all departments, but the team spirit remains high in the squad.
