Scorecard

Sawbridgeworth A v London Colney Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 26 Aug 2007 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 67 runs

With Capt Cock absent it was left to Jade to take the reins for this Sunday fixture.

London Colney had a week off from Chess Valley League action and travelled to Sawbridgeworth for a friendly fixture.

After winning the toss, Colney elected to field. The decision looked bleak as Colney slipped to 5-2 with Monty and Mitch falling early. This was to get even worse as Alex Mc was then bowled. Colney were 15-3 and an early finish looked likely.

Slug and Goffy then proceeded to show how to bat on a difficult wicket. Both progressed into the 40's, putting on over 90 runs.

It was the introduction of the Sawbo spinners that saw the game change. Goffy fell when he was bowled behind his legs, followed by Uzman, Jade and Gerry Hanna in quick succession.

Slug had progressed to 42 when he found a 'shooter' which bowled him.

Paul Humbles, batting for the first time in a number of years had everyone in fits, but managed to avoid 'Long's Law'.

Jerry Fretter was the last to fall after a serier of sweeps, both normal and reverse. Colney had scored just 143 in 33 overs.

After Tea, during which the 'posh' folk of Sawbo objected to the dress sense of the Colney team (You should know to wear white at tea). This was despite their own spectators walking into the bar with no top, and also taking tea before the players (we don't do that at Colney).

Anyway.....

Colney quickly made Sawbo pay as Uzman and Matt Irvine took early wickets to leave them at 5-3.

Although Uzman was warned by a player umpire for 'throwing' he let the ball do the talking by bowling both openers. A 'plumb' LBW was turned down, despite having hit the wicket on every other occasion. However, it did not matter as Matt and Uzman ripped out the top order, with 3 wickets each.

Jade and Slug polished off the tail as Sawbo were rolled over for just 71.

A quick drink the bar, ties and blazers donned, to the approval of the Sawbo members, and it back to a proper cricket club for drinks... and to just catch sight of 'Haddock' Hadley and 'Oates' Fisher both scoring 50's.

A good day for both teams....

Capt Cock returns next week with the League side requiring 1 point for promotion.
