Harrow III v London Colney Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 10 Jun 2007 at 2pm
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets
London Colney travelled over to Harrow on a sunny, hot afternoon.
Scott managed to lose the toss !! and not surprisingly was asked to field.
Tim Fretter and Merv Irvine opened up, and Tim was immediately rewarded when he bowled the opener without scoring. He followed this up with another delivery shortly afterwards. Despite a batsmen being over 2 yards out of his crease, the umpire (theirs) 'gave him the benefit of the doubt, although it was not clear what doubt there was. Tim was then denied a plumb LBW, which quickly became evident as the player Nyyer smashed the next two balls for 6 and 4. At the other end, Irvine was having no luck. A good little spell by the youngster Matt Stear saw some of his good balls either miss the stumps, or catches were dropped (Monty and Scott !!)
Goff came into the attack and removed Nyyer for 36, following a smart catch by Irvine. Slug Fretter and, newcomer, Uzman Zaman came into the attack and were both rewarded. Zaman took a smart caught and bowled in his follow through, whilst Slug's straight balls were too good. He also had ex-Buckinghamshire player Abbas, trapped LBW for 65. The lower tail saw Harrow to 189/8 from their 45 overs.
Even after Tea it was still hot, but Wise and Slug opened the innings in search of 190. Both were steady with little alarm and set off a 4/5 an over. After a 121 opening partnership, Wise somehow missed a straight ball, and was bowled for 35. Skipper Hadley strode to the wicket and hit a brisk 21 (again !!) before also falling to the same straight ball.
During this time Slug was still looking good, passing 50 off 78 balls. A mini collapse ensued when Stear (LBW - according to the Wasp's laws of cricket) Goff - Caught a long on and Tim Fretter ( run out by a suicidal call from Slug) departed with single scores. Despite the loss of the The Wasp in the later stages, Jerry Fretter finished off the match with a sweep for 4. Slug finished on 85no.
A good game of cricket, played not on the best of wickets in good spirit.
