London Colney followed up their opening stalemate against Shenley with another draw, this time at home, entertaining Ickleford, although this week they can take some consolation from having slightly the better of the game. After winning the toss and batting, Colney saw Adam Buckmaster and Phil McLaughlin get away to a confident start with 40 for the first wicket, and when Scott Hadley (40) joined Adam Buckmaster the pair took Colney to a dominant 160-2, with most of 20 overs remaining. When Buckmaster was bowled for an excellent 89, however, Ickleford came back into the game, and from that point on wickets fell regularly leaving Colney to stumble to 214-8 at the close, a decent total, but less formidable than it might have been.

For much of the second innings the result was in the balance as Icklefrd made a decent fist of the chase. After tight opening spells from Uzman Zaman and Matt Irvine put Ickleford behind the clock, Colney skipper Matt Bristow opened things up with his off spin, and Ickleford’s run rate climbed. The ploy worked however, and wickets started to fall. At 160-5 Ickleford looked good, but 2 wickets in 2 balls reduced them to 7 down, and the game changed. Matt Bristow said “It was the game’s defining point. From looking like winning they instantly went to looking like losing. They shut up shop, and we had nothing left to keep them interested. From that point on the game was a draw”. With the chase over, the game petered out to a tame draw with Ickleford on 175-7. For Colney Zaman (3-44) and Bristow (3-52) were the pick of the bowlers in a game where they at least finished with the upper hand.
