Scorecard

Chesham I v London Colney Cricket Club Sunday 1st XI on Sun 15 Jun 2008 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 7 wickets

Match report Colney travelled to Chesham for the first Chess Valley league game of the season.

Capt Cock, unsurprisingly, lost the toss (again) and was asked to field.

Connor Dow opened the bowling against Sri Lankan 'A' batsmen, Bradman Ediweera and an early blitz of boundaries saw Colney looking down the barrel of 250+. However, a big shot too many off Dow saw Ediweera sky the ball to Gerry Hanna at long-on.

At the other end, Uzman bowled with good line and length keeping the run rate down. Wise was called into the attack after Dow completed his compulsory 5 overs and was rewarded with a wicket, when Dow had an easy catch at mid-off.

Wise was able to find some swing and took his second wicket as Gerry Hanna took a running-diving catch at mid-on. You wont see a more spectacular catch this season.

Simon 'Slug' Fretter replaced Zaman, and once he found his stride, found the edge of Bilby (18) who was smartly caught by Capt Cock at second slip.

Colney had brought the run rate down to just 3-an-over and a score of under 200 looked likely.

Matt Bristow bowled well with little reward, but Colney had managed to restrict Chesham to just 180 from 45 overs, a score that seemed well below par.

After tea, Mitch and Wisey opened up, but after a good square cut, Mitch could only edge to the keeper. Wisey was looking good, and put on 32 with Matt Bristow, until he was bowled for 19.

Capt Cock strode to the wicket and after a 5 min wait at the non-striker's end, he hit 4 boundaries in four balls. However, he could only kick the next ball onto his stumps.

At the other end Matt Bristow remained calm, hitting the bad ball to the boundary. He was joined by Simon 'Slug' Fretter and they slowly, calmly advanced the scoring rate.

Matt Bristow brought up his 50 in just 65 balls.

Colney required just 3-an-over and with enough bad balls, on a fast outfield, they never looked in any trouble.

A century partnership was brought up in 18 overs, and you could visibly see the Chesham heads dropping.

Matt and Slug were both unbeated, with Bristow tantalising just four short of a century. Slug finished with 31no.

Colney won by 7 wickets with over 7 overs to spare.

A good start to the Chess Valley season, with 4 points in the bag.
