Littel Berkhamstead Sahibs v London Colney Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 28 Jul 2007 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets

Match report London Colney travelled away to Little Berkhamsted knwoing that a win was needed to continue theit push towards the top of the League.

Having lost the toss, Colney were aksed to field. A mention should be made of the ground. As nice as it was, the outfield had grass that was more like a jungle and boundaries that were only just long enough for Richard Rouse's run-up.

The Sahibs set set with intent to only hit big balls. So much so that I believe that 7-8 balls were lost to half hit shots for six.

Trevor Ray and Connor Dow kept the batsmen tied down, and the score of 16-0 from 10 overs reflected this. Richard Rouse took over from Connor and was immediately rewarded when he bowled Marriott for just 8. However this brought in the Sahibs Capt who promptly hit Rouse for 4,6,6,1,6. Even the introduction of Slug Fretter and then Den Hadley didn't kerb his agressive style, as Den's first ball went for 6. However, Den was not to be denied when two balls later he bowled Green for 32 (22balls).

Den was denied a caught behind, the snick picked up as a 0.2 on the Richter Scale !!!

Sahibs continued to try big shots and a 98 runs partnership ensued. It was the introduction of Wise and Webster-Smith who brought the game back into Colney's favour when he had Carr (79) caught at point.

Wisey was then denied a stumping, as the batsmen Marriott danced around ON THE CREASE...

Webby eventually accounted for Marriott when he was bowled, attempting another big hit. Wisey took the wicket of Palmer and was on a hat-trick as Edony edged behind, first ball.

A late rally by Sahibs took the score over 200, and it was left to the returning Rouse to take the final two wickets in six balls, with Webby taking a high catch at long-on and then bowling the No.11.

Sahibs had scored 209 from 52.2 overs. This looked a little off the pace, although the jungle outfield did prevent value for shots.

A mention for the Tea.... I think I can safely say for everyone who played, it was one of the finest Tea on the League. Having said that, it was a yearly special, just that we happened to be the oppo. It was grand, and everyone tucked in. Was it a ploy that was meant to slow us down !!!

T Ray was sent out with Mitch to 'be a positive opener'. Trev managed to keep his pads out of the line and they both took some very short runs. However with the score on 22, Mitch perished when he missed a straight ball and was bowled for 16. Trev was joined by master bat, Alex McCartney, who was looking to continue his fine scoring run. He was given a life before he had reached double figures, when he tamely to Sahibs Capt at mid-off, who promptly dropped the ball. Bad news..... Alex took full toll and we saw a magnificent example of hitting. He reached his 50 from just 57 balls.

In the meantime, Trev perished when he snicked behind AND WALKED ... for 28.

Capt Seymour strode to the wicket, and took 19 balls to get off the mark. However, it didn't really matter as Alex was still smashing to all parts, mostly pig field, who ate them !!!!!

Alex brought up his 100, from just 90 balls with a straight drive for 4.

Colney strode easily towards 210, with Alex not out on 116 and Capt Seymour on 18 from just 40.5 overs.
