North Enfield 113 all out
London Colney117-6
London Colney won by 4 wickets

London Colney claimed their third win of the season on the road at North Enfield, in a slightly surreal game, which from the start never looked close to going the full 100 overs. After winning the toss and batting, the home team skipper has to sit and watch as Colney opener Uzman Zaman claimed a wicket with his second and sixth deliveries of the opening over, and then another in his third over, when Enfield stood at 2-3. When he struck again in the 9th over, and Tim Fretter claimed one in the next, North Enfield were rocking at 19-5. Although one or two balls had stopped and reared, by and the large it wasn’t a collapse that could be blamed on the pitch; Zaman had bowled exceptionally well, coupled with some fairly indifferent batting. North Enfield’s skipper, Orton, batting at 7, finally showed some resolve, and kept Colney at bay while he ground out a determined 39, but after Zaman trapped him lbw, the end was in sight. Williams, batting at 9, took the fight to Colney with an undefeated rapid 33, but Colney wrapped up the tail, and when David Goff had the last man caught at short leg, North Enfield were all out for just 113, inside 36 overs, Uzman Zaman finishing with a superb 8-38 from 18 overs.

Colney’s innings was, if anything, even more eventful. Conscious that the pitch might have a part to play in things, Colney skipper Matt Bristow sent in Tim Fretter, looking for a positive opening start, and he performed his role excellently. By the fifth over, while North Enfield’s opening attack were still looking to find any sort of rhythm, Colney had reached, 43-0. Inevitably, the home side were able to hit back in the middle of the innings. Tim Fretter fell for 25, and both Ady Fisher and Tony Holloway were undone by deliveries that spat and reared from a length. At 59-4 the home side might have seen an outside chance, but Alex McCartney and Scott Hadley added 40 to take Colney to within sight of the win. Even then, two more wickets fell, but McCartney’s fighting 41 saw Colney home. In the end their innings had lasted 22 eventful overs, during which time 117 runs were scored and 6 wickets fell, but a win is a win however it’s gained.
