Waltham X Rosedale II v London Colney Cricket Club Saturday 2nd XI on Sat 11 Jul 2009 at 1.30pm
London Colney Cricket Club Lost by 2 wickets

Match report Another week, another loss for good points..

London Colney lost the toss and were asked to bat.

A steady, but un-spectacular start saw Gibbons and Ray put on 79 for the first week (from 25 overs) before Gibbons (48) slapped the ball to mid-on.

Connor Dow hit 6 boundaries in a quick-fire 29 before he was caught at leg-gully. Selwyn Browne set out his stall with dot, six, six.

Ray fell for 34 when he missed a straight ball. Browne shortly followed for 27, when he edged behind.

Mitch and J Fretter put on 36, running some tight singles, until J Fretter was run-out for 11. Mitch followed soon after when he was also bowled for 48.

Colney finished on 237-7, although Waltham X took an age to bowl their overs and were deducted 3 wickets after the 3 hour time limit.

It started to rain and there was persistent drizzle through the entire Colney bowling.. Dow was not able to bowl and Capt Slug opened at one end with T Ray at other.

The Waltham X opener put on 36 until Patel (1 of 5) was bowled. Hurst replaced Ray and was rewarded with a wicket when the other opener slapped the ball to Dow at mid-on.

Slug bowled throughout at one end and was rewarded with four wickets, with a smart stumping of Patel (2 of 5 ) for 50. He then had Patel (3 of 5) caught by Dow and Jansarai by Hurst at slip.

Waltham X were behind the rate, but the ball was now a ball of soap and it was getting dark (due to Waltham X taking an age to bowl their overs)

Despite a run out by Capt Slug and a first ball duck, when he also bowled Simon, Waltham X needed 18 off the last two overs.

Capt Patel (4 of 5) slapped Hurst for 12 off the penultimate over, which left Waltham X needing 4 off the last over.

As the club umpires had decided that LBW was not a valid dismissal !!! the Waltham X side secured a win with just two balls to spare.

Colney picked up 18 points, which took them out of the relegation zone, but it could have been so much better with a dry ball and good visibility.
